I used to use that when I was teaching university kids. Though at that time, it was used as my response to them saying "Japan doesn't remember history!" I would point out, though, that lots of 18-21 year olds around the world don't like to talk politics. U.S. college students eyes often glaze over at the first mention of republicans or democrats.
